Nataliya Apanovich, will talk about the Green Revolution and its spread from Mexico to South Asia from the 1960s to where it is now and where it is headed. The talk will cover some historical aspects of the Green revolution and try to connect the movement to the Malthusian theory of population. Environmental and social consequences of the movement will be discussed by looking at Punjab, India. Also, the future of the Green revolution will be discussed in terms of sub-Saharan African countries and the drivers and magnitude of their agricultural transitions. Overall, the presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the subject with major events, issues, and implications. 

Nataliya Apanovich is a 4th-year PhD student in Sustainable Agriculture & Biorenewable Resources and Technology. Her research interests include food and energy security in sub-Saharan Africa; cropping systems and soil quality and fertility; and agricultural development.
