Addressing the Food System through Drama and the Creative Arts

The Graduate Program and Sustainable Agriculture, Department of Music and Theatre, and the MFA program in Creative Writing & Environment invite you to join us for:
"Addressing the Food System through Drama and the Creative Arts"
with
Mary Swander
Mary Swander, Executive Director of AgArts, a non-profit designed to imagine and promote healthy food systems through the arts, will discuss the evolution of her work in agricultural drama. Swander has toured the United States from coast-to-coast with plays she has written and produced, performing in venues from farmers’ barns, to the Oregon Nature Conservancy, to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, to New York University. At each stop, with each play, she took on significant agricultural issues : the lingering trauma of the Farm Crisis, immigration, farmland transition, and the land grab of the white settlers from the Natives. During the pandemic, she created a podcast “AgArts from Horse & Buggy Land” that explores the Amish, sustainability, and the wider rural environment.
