Looking Forward

Join us in Curtiss 0013 or via the Zoom link below to hear from a panel of graduates from the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture about their journeys after the program and how GPSA helped prepare them for work in an array of fields.

The panel will be followed by a retirement reception for Dr. Matt Liebman in the Harl Commons.

Panelists:

Ranae Dietzel completed her PhD in Sustainable Agriculture and Crop Production & Physiology at Iowa State University in 2014. She currently works as an Agronomy Data Scientist at Syngenta and co-owns and operates Lost Lake Farm, a small grass-fed dairy and artisan cheese business in central Iowa. Ranae grew up in rural Iowa before getting a BA in Biology at the University of Minnesota-Morris and a Master’s in Soil Ecology at Cornell University.

Annie Ferguson is currently a PhD student at Arizona State University researching how white people become antiracist, specifically, how they manage their emotions to engage in antiracist action. Having spent 15 years working in agriculture, community/economic development, land use planning, and other sectors in Montana, Idaho, and Oregon, Annie brings a focus on moving rural white folks towards an understanding of their privilege and power, and their ability to use those tools for liberation for all. After graduating from ISU with dual degrees in Sustainable Agriculture and Community & Regional Planning, Annie worked for a small non-profit on land use policies for ag land preservation, developed programs supporting beginning farmers across Montana, and supported Farm Aid with their national farmer crisis hotline, indigenous farmer advocate support network, and development of a farm crisis network in the Northeast. In addition to her program work, Annie has a focus on grantwriting and has raised over $1M from USDA for diverse farmer support projects.

Adam Wright is the Agricultural Arts Program Coordinator at Mountain Song Community School, a K-8 Waldorf public charter school in Colorado. He oversees a multidisciplinary school garden program that features a 20-foot geodesic greenhouse, an outdoor clay oven, and numerous animals. Adam graduated from Iowa State University with dual master’s degrees in Sustainable Agriculture and Creative Writing.
